RICHARD HERR is right. Tasmania needs a Commission of Inquiry — once called a Royal Commission — to investigate a series of Tasmanian government scandals ( Inquiry should come first ). And such a commission must be separate to a specific commission of inquiry into the relationship between the Tasmanian forest industry, Gunns Ltd and the Tasmanian Government. David Bartlett is wrong to sweep the past under the carpet with his suggestion of an ethical body with a line in the sand drawn over the past. Such is the deep distrust of Tasmanians that nothing less than full inquiries with sweeping powers to examine the past dealings of Bacon/Lennon Labor will restore faith in ethical governance.
