Tasmanians Against the Pulp Mill Research
The 194 messages documented here from Gunns and State and Federal governments often fail to stand up to scrutiny or historical analysis. We as Tamar Valley residents are disgusted with over four years of systematic corporate and government spin and manipulation. No one should have to put up with this form of disruption and level of violation of our rights as Australians. Our lives have been put on hold; we cannot improve our properties, have children, decide whether to stay or sell up and try to recoup anything like the real values of our properties.

A message from Warwick Raverty (on this document) and Judith King (on Gabby Forward) …

TAP’s document is an excellent, concise summary of 4 years of lies and subterfuge by Gunns Limited and the Tasmanian State Government! It was my own knowledge of these lies that led me to state publicly in March 2008 that I no longer assessed that Gunns were a fit and proper company to build a kraft pulp mill anywhere on the planet. It is a great pity that these lies have brought so much bad press to the honourable profession of pulp and paper making. Still as the old adage says, if you lie with dogs you are bound to catch fleas! Fortunately the profession, almost to a man, has remained steadfastly at arms length from this shameful episode. The FIRST DUTY of a scientist or engineer, particularly one paid from the public purse, must be remain ethical in his or her behaviour and in the utilisation of his or her skills, despite the pressures applied to him or her by his or her employer. Otherwise it is a very slippery slope to the sort of ‘democracy’ enjoyed in Zimbabwe.

It is appalling when our youth are denied recognition by an unethical media service but that’s exactly what happened to Gabby Forward in the News Ltd poll to identify Green heroes. Gabby stood on a Stop the pulp mill platform and received over 6000 voted but the award went to a contestant with just over 700, yes seven hundred, votes.
Peter Garrett was involved in opening the poll and questions need to be raised as to whether he or his department have influenced the outcome of this poll to avoid embarrassment.
Bottom-line is that Gabby Forward deserves recognition for the amazing work she has done. We all need to be encouraging the youth of Australia to stand for what they believe in.
I have written to Media Watch in the hope this matter will be raised with News Ltd.
