You will notice some changes to previous years, especially with a couple of venues, and the program has expanded slightly to incorporate a Poets Breakfast on Sunday morning.

6.30 WORDS ON WATER The official launch of the 2008 Tasmanian Poetry Festival, held on board the Tamar Odyssey as twilight settles over the Tamar River. Featuring readings by some of our Guest Poets.

Guests are invited to return to Mud Bar for Readings by the Guest Poets of the 2008 Poetry Festival, including Janet Galbraith, Ken Bolton, Cath Kenneally, Kristen Lang, David Stavanger, Mala Anthony and the Scribesisterspeaking.
//This event includes an Open Mike session for poets to share their work. Five minute limit, register on the night.//

LAUNCESTON POETRY CUP The seminal event of the Festival, now in its 23rd year, the Launceston Poetry Cup throws open the challenge to any willing poet: if you can generate the loudest audience response in under a minute with your poem, the silverware is yours. Open to everyone and anyone! It’s loud, it’s contagious, it’s the most fun you’ll ever have in verse.

Join us over breakfast as we welcome three touring poets from Queensland, and hear their work: Ross Clark, Helen Avery, Nathan Shepherdson.

Wind down with us as we celebrate poetry in the lovely embrace of this former place of worship. Hear from each of the Festival’s guest poets, enjoy a glass of wine, win something in the fabulous Festival raffle and be farewelled until next year when we gather together to do it all again!
