15 Years! In Liffey I’ve watched the bush be turned into World War I. I’ve watched it over more than fifteen years. I’ve seen it. It’s a joke! Fifteen years doesn’t bring us back our birthright. You don’t get your understory back, you have your soil turned and tossed so that it never gets back its beautiful humus, the animals are hunted and poisoned – they will never be welcome again. The class 3 and 4 streams – gutters of open clay where once were extraordinary gullies of cool and shade with water that fed the valley.

I’ve seen the bush that was, then the first plantation after it was clearfelled. I’ve fought the bushfires connected with the logging and with those that are only able to exploit and degrade. I’ve had my 1080 letters, and seen the helicopter spraying. I’ve seen the second plantation and have the sweet pleasure of telling my grandson how this once was all bush along here.
