TAP sets up its Restore Democracy Tent in Launceston’s City Park today to provide an alternative to parliament sitting in the Albert Hall.
The tent will remain for the duration of the parliamentary sitting and will provide a focus for people to access information and engage in discussion.
“In passing the Pulp Mill Assessment Act, especially the tyrannical Section 11, the Labor Government, the Liberal Opposition and much of the Legislative Council, destroyed what few democratic credentials they may have had,” said Bob McMahon, TAP spokesperson.
“The people of Tasmania have been lied to, threatened, abused and ignored by their own government, aided and abetted by a complicit Liberal Opposition, all because they thought a pulp mill was more important than human rights, more important than proper government, due process and adherence to the law” continued McMahon.
“Our presence in the City Park will act as an unwelcome reminder to the Labor and Liberal parties that there will be a price to pay for their betrayal,” concluded Bob McMahon.
An open invitation goes out to the people of Tasmania to visit City Park and participate in the People’s Parliament under canvas and be a part of history.
