The Labor Party also makes an interesting submission to change the name of the electorate of Denison, named in honour of a former Governor of Van Diemans Land. Labor proposes the seat be re-named Inglis Clark in honour of Andrew Inglis Clark, who was Tasmanian Attorney General in the 1890s, was involved in the drafting of the Australian Constitution, and was also largely responsible for Tasmania adopting the modified Hare electoral system, today known as the Hare-Clark electoral system.

Labor already has problems in Franklin at the 2010 election with the retirement of former Premier Paul Lennon, the leading vote winner in the seat. Labor’s third candidate, Deputy Premier Paula Wriedt, is currently in hospital and there must be doubts over her political future. With the Liberal Leader Will Hodgman leading the Liberal ticket in Franklin, the boundaries re-enforce Liberal hopes that the seat will be where the Party can gain a seat from labor. Read more here
