MEDIA RELEASE
The Peter Hewitt Care for Africa Foundation works at a grassroots level tackling education, health and improving lives in rural Africa and is holding its annual benefit the Love Africa Spring Ball to raise funds for medical and education projects in Kenya and Tanzania.
Care for Africa was founded in 2006 by Mr Peter Hewitt and Ms Diana Morrison. Sadly Peter Hewitt passed away last week, after a long battle with cancer. Peter will be remembered for generosity, compassion and commitment to his home country, Africa, and also his dedication to healthcare both in Tasmania and in Africa.
Since its inception Care for Africa has been working on the ground in Kenya and Tanzania delivering aid which has been possible through the generosity and support of the Launceston Community. Due to this generous support the 2007 ball was sold-out and many were left disappointed that they hadn’t purchased their tickets earlier.
All proceeds from the Love Africa Spring Ball 2008 will go directly to Care for Africa’s projects in Tanzania and Kenya, where we have many projects underway assisting some of the world’s poorest people in the areas of health-care, education, sanitation, and clean water. We are currently working on a large education project, where we are assisting local schools, building a large educational resource facility, and supporting existing teachers through our ‘Teach the Teacher’ project, where teachers from Australia will travel to Tanzania to train current teachers and improve their skills.
