TASMANIAN’S NEWEST SENATOR TO TARGET EDUCATION AND TRAINING

Tasmania’s Newest Senator, Catryna Bilyk in her first speech to Parliament today outlined her vision for Australia as the educated country, listing education and skills development as her key policy priorities.

Senator Bilyk, who is the first former childcare worker ever to be elected to the Senate, said it was her experience in the often under recognised industry that promoted her to seek to improve working conditions and training opportunities, particularly for more marginalised workers.

Senator Bilyk, also spoke passionately about the need for further investment in education and skills development.

Senator Bilyk highlighted the essential role which education and training plays in assisting the more disadvantaged workers in our community, by providing them with the knowledge and skills they need to engage fully in the workforce.

“We need to develop and invest in skills that allow us to perform effectively in secure, sustainable and satisfying employment,” Senator Bilyk said.
