I have to admit though, industry was targeted and the article showed various factories belching smoke. That is such a cliché, especially when thinking Tasmanians know that forest practices are responsible for more emissions than most other industries. Does he not realise that clear felling, burning off forest waste and chipping our precious forests emits up to 30% of carbon emissions and that a log-fired power station, to provide energy for this obnoxious pulp mill, will override any carbon credits.
ONE WONDERS at the mentality of political wranglers like David Bartlett to even utter the words “tackling climate change”. Surely, before one dares to assimilate with interstate counterparts on such issues it would be prudent to research climate change preventative methods and the implications thereof.
In the ABC news broadcast that I witnessed, Mr. Bartlett suggested that households should bite the bullet and fit low energy light globes, install electrical generating devises and to use solar energy… Wow! I was blown away with such a suggestion that ordinary Tasmanians, going about their daily business of living a humble lifestyle are responsible for climate change and should take the action necessary to correct it.

Incidentally, I wonder if John Gay realises that, when push comes to shove and the reality hits, in global terms, the carbon tax he will have to pay will outweigh his company’s total worth. But then again I’m sure he knows this and has probably signed a contract with the state government to cover his losses.
