Transparent, Accountable and Honest Government – How will we get there?

When …

Sunday 22nd June 2008, 1 – 5 pm

Where: Friends Meeting House, Argyle Street, North Hobart

Individuals who have made the effort to access vital information that has not been publicly available or been part of public policy decision-making can en-courage others in their community to do like-wise.

Conduct within organisations that are of an unfair, discriminatory, unethical, unsafe or corrupt nature only perpetuates because no one in the organisation is prepared to act.

Self-interest is invariably the spur for such personal & courageous activity.

Apathy or indifference to inappropriate conduct within the organisation and its individuals is symptomatic of a learnt and well-established culture.

Fear of alienation & ostracism about enquiry and researching difficult matters of interest is the basis of self-censorship. DON’T ROCK THE BOAT!

Can Tasmania move away from a culture that expects and rewards compliance and punishes inquiry.

For me I contributing to an activist community that acknowledges diversity of opinion, engages in dialogue and celebrates research is a ‘vision’.

Developing such culture for Tasmania is still a dream.
