Rodney Croome and the HCC apology

We are seriously concerned at Rodney Croom’s undiplomatically press statement yesterday demanding an apology from the HCC for the arrests at Salamanca twenty years ago. Our concern is that Rodney’s call does not represent the positive way that the Greater Hobart COPP Community Liaison Committee has discussed this anniversary, or the substance of our request to Council celebrate the major gains that our community is making since that event. We had nothing to do with the statement nor were we consulted prior to it’s release.
Good morning Jeff (Briscoe)

I am emailing you as the Council appointed Liaison Alderman on behalf of a majority of the Coming Out Proud Program (COPP) State Steering Committee (Co Chairs).

We had nothing to do with the statement nor were we consulted prior to it’s release

Our Community (GLBTI) in the region has been heartened by the gains that we are making with the HCC’s support of the COPP Community Liaison Committee especially for the most disadvantaged sections of our population. We are especially pleased for the opportunity our relationship with the HCC has provided to be a dynamic part of the region sharing and playing our part in the whole community.

I would assure the Mayor and Council Members that Rodney was not speaking on behalf of the COPP Community Liaison Committee. We would welcome any opportunity to meet with Councillors to discuss our positive proposal to acknowledge on this anniversary our constructive relationship with Council and desire to contribute our diversity to the development of an inclusive and respectful society in the region.
