Paula and the dead trees
Jon Ayling
My brother in law recently went to stay at the Cradle Mountain Chalet. As it was relatively quiet he had a good opportunity to discuss concerns over wildlife and the park with a guide (details withheld). Apparently when Paula Wriedt was Minister, there was a hell of a debacle because she wanted all the dead trees removed from main entrance areas and roadsides because she didn’t want the tourists to think the place looked dreary and depressing. Parks and Wildlife had to explain very basic principles of ecology and the fact that these old trees were actually habitats for creatures. Even after this she persisted with her claims and over months it became quite an interdepartmental battle to have the trees left alone.
All I can think is that perhaps this is the intellectual hallmark of being a Tasmanian politician, in which case they all need to go. Read more, Comment here
