What a cosy little nest we have. The CEO of the Asthma Foundation and the Premier playing golf with people’s health.

I REFER to the recent newspaper article (Mercury 27/4/08) when CEO Cathy Beswick stated the Asthma Foundation, “is not qualified nor the appropriate body to say whether smoky burn-offs should or should not occur.”

Ms Beswick also said the asthma foundation “can’t become a lobby group.”

Well, if that body is not qualified to say smoky burn-offs are extremely bad for asthmatics and have the guts to lobby for forestry to stop them completely on behalf of all those suffering, then she needs to listen closely to all her members and represent them properly, or get out and let someone that will.

Interestingly enough, the Asthma Foundation now employs a public relations company. Last weekend was an example of how that works. The Premier attends an Asthma golf day and gets his picture in the paper.

I am sure his time and effort would have benefited more asthmatics by getting his Environment Minister and his Health Minister to act on the serious complaints about forestry smoke which results in asthmatics being made ill in the first place.

What a cosy little nest we have. The CEO of the Asthma Foundation and the Premier playing golf with people’s health.
