Spokesperson for Friends of Crescent Bay Mr. Ted Mead announced that today’s decision by the Tasman Council to approve Dick Smith’s Crescent Bay development has come at a serious cost to the Peninsula community. Mr. Mead said. The Tasman Council’s decision is a monumental back flip, and a major embarrassment considering it vigorously opposed the previous somewhat identical proposal last year.

Mr. Mead claims the Tasman Council has become destitute for a long-term vision for the region by approving a development that degrades one of its greatest assets, the natural environment. History in Tasmania clearly shows, that the benefits to the community through declaration and proper management of the natural environment brings greater prosperity and recognition to a region far beyond exclusive hotel/motel developments. The saddest aspect of this whole process is that the Tasman Councilors are unaware that they have been totally hoodwinked on their position!

Mr. Mead states the battle to save the stunning environment around Crescent Bay is far from over as the local opponents prepare to challenge the Councils decision through the Resource Management Planning Appeals Tribunal.

Mr. Mead says that the concerned conservation groups are totally committed and in it for the long haul. Our arguments are now far more compelling as we prepare to fight the proposed development to the last bucket of cement.
