WHEN a second jury failed yesterday to reach a verdict on the guilt or innocence of Bryan Green, an elderly relative was philosophical. The woman, believed to be Green’s mother, comforted his loyal wife, Mary, with the words: “He’s still got a job, sweetie.” This is about the only comfort for Green, who will fight on as backbench MP for Braddon, a conservative rural seat in Tasmania’s north-west where this “local boy made good” remains popular. However, Green must realise his hopes of resurrecting a career beyond the backbench anytime soon are slimmer than the prospects of Paul Lennon becoming a greenie. Read more here
