TASMANIA’S controversial fox taskforce is in crisis over allegations of missing guns, misuse of firearms and dangerous shooting by at least one officer. An internal investigation by the Department of Primary Industries and Water is under way and criminal charges may be laid.
Over the next 10 years, the branch will receive $60 million. However, despite numerous sightings of foxes, no live foxes or fox cubs have ever been captured in Tasmania. Read more here
Tasmanian Times — in consequence of complete disinterest by mainstream media apart from sensationalist reporting of “proof” of foxes — and through writers Dr David Obendorf and Ian Rist, with responses from wildlife biologist Nick Mooney, first raised questions about the taskforce some four years ago. A $1000 REWARD for the recovery of a fox was posted on 14 August 2006. Result: Zilch!
