THE Greens lost a parliamentary vote to ban battery egg farming in Tasmania yesterday — but Hobart City Council vowed to step up its campaign. The Greens’ Bill in the House of Assembly called for a ban with penalties up to $50,000 or a year’s jail if farmers breached the proposed laws. They proposed financial assistance for producers to move out of the practice. The Liberals voted with the Greens, but the Government used its majority to sink the move. Read more here
