Lennon shows he’s still boss
Sue Neales Mercury
What Mr Lennon is effectively saying to Bartlett and others within his party who lack faith in his long term leadership is: “Watch me rescue this government. “Watch me become a statesman. Watch me champion core Labor values again. Watch me make Tasmanians forget about the pulp mill approval process farce. Watch me prove that I know what Tasmanians want from their government. Watch me win the next election.” In a nutshell, Lennon is determined to wipe the pulp mill stain of 2007 from his political CV. He now wants to be remembered instead, although many think this impossible revisionism, as a reforming premier who championed aboriginal rights and stolen generation compensation. Who left a legacy as Tasmania’s 42nd premier of better child protection and child literacy, who built new public hospitals and government homes, changed Tasmania’s image and who oversaw the boom of Tasmania as an irrigated, water-rich food-bowl for Australia.
It now boasts a grandiose description of Mr Lennon, 52, and what would appear to be his preferred perception of himself, his family and his antecedence: About Your Premier
