But none of this justifies Biddulph’s assumption that the environment is about to transform politics once and for all. Indeed the swing to the Greens nationwide this time, despite this being the so-called “first ever climate change election”, and despite Labor having shed a very Green forests policy, was only a completely trivial +0.34% in the Reps and a very modest 1.35% in the Senate. I am sceptical that the Greens will become the second major party *even if* ecological disaster pays us a visit. Rather, major parties will simply incorporate green dimensions in their policies.
