Typing IS Activism!

‘THE ISLAND’S LIVING SOUL ASKS THAT WE GIVE. AND WE GIVE.’

[Reference: The Forests (2007) Matthew Newton & Pete Hay. What does it mean to be an activist?]

‘Human activities have a heavy impact on nature – sometimes disastrously so.

• More than 35% of the earth’s land surface area is used for agriculture
• Humans directly or indirectly use about 40% of the world plant growth
• Humans directly use 25-30% of the earth’s marine resources
• Humans directly use 60% of the earth’ readily accessible fresh water

The natural world is in crisis with 20-30% of the planet’s species threatened with extinction.

Few Australians seem to be aware that our rates of species loss and environmental degradation are amongst the worst on Earth. If nothing is done as a matter of urgency, we risk losing our living, breathing paradise and replacing it with a nightmare.’
