I am tired of letter writers like the St Marys correspondent and the raft of bigoted, prejudiced, intolerant and blinkered Australians who are hell-bent on making life even more difficult for those who have endured the most appalling and traumatic challenges, arrived in a country with legitimate optimism, only to face condemnation from a community that should know better.
Dear Editor
THE disgraceful spray (Tasmania’s leading newspaper, October 19) aimed at members of the Sudanese community cannot go unchallenged.
The St Marys resident quoted a “senior Victorian detective” (Dave Logan) who claims “99 per cent of our assaults, robberies and armed robberies involve Sudanese’’.
Would the letter writer be prepared to contact Dave Logan (who is in fact a transit policeman) and ask him if he is prepared to stand by that outrageous suggestion?
I will if he doesn’t.
IT’S TIME to stamp out what appears to be a growing trend to marginalise those who need guidance, opportunities and, above all – compassion.
Sincerely
John Andrewartha
