Dear LCC Candidate,

On behalf of the Association, I extend an invitation for you to attend our October meeting at 7.30pm on Monday, 15th at Heather Hall, Penquite Road, Newstead to address the membership for 3 minutes and answer questions from the floor afterwards. The meeting will be moderated by myself and you will receive a fair hearing.

All candidates have been invited to attend and the order of speakers will be determined by ballot on the night.

Please advise per email if you are able to attend. If I have not received a response by 5.00pm on Wednesday, 10th October, I will assume that you will not be attending. Responses after that date will not be accepted as we need sufficient time to appraise our members of the final list of speakers.

I have attached a questionnaire of the twenty most pressing issues relevant to our members and would ask that you return this to us well prior to the meeting in order that we may be able to distribute all the results to our membership.

John Henshaw

We have invited ALL candidates to attend our monthly

General Meeting at Heather Hall, Penquite Road, Newstead at 7.30pm on Monday, 15th October.

Each candidate who attends will be given between 3 & 5 minutes (depending on how many candidates attend) to tell us about their policies followed by a Question and Answer session. This promises to be a lively exchange and an excellent opportunity to put forward those burning questions which affect you, as ratepayers in the Launceston municipality.

So, in order to make an informed decision when voting, please find the time to attend this meeting and, more importantly,

MAKE SURE YOU CAST YOUR VOTE!

Our invitations to candidates to attend have enclosed the following questionnaire:

Are you in favour of selling the QVMAG to the State Government for a nominal amount to relieve ratepayers of the $3.0M drain on funds?
Are you in favour of selling York Park to the State Government for a nominal amount to relieve ratepayers of the $1.0M drain on funds?
Are you in favour of selling Albert Hall for a nominal amount to relieve ratepayers of the drain on funds?
Are you in favour of selling Princes Theatre for a nominal amount to relieve ratepayers of the drain on funds?
Are you in favour of a proposal to have the Commonwealth and State Governments relieve the LCC of any responsibility for fixing and maintain the Tamar River levees?
Are you in favour of maintaining Council expenditure or cash-in-kind for Festivale?
Are you in favour of maintaining Council expenditure for the tourist facility/bureau/authority?
Are you in favour of maintaining the ‘sister cities’ program?
Are you in favour of reducing the number of matters discussed by Council ‘in camera’?
Are you in favour of a ‘flat rate’ system of raising rates income as adopted recently by Brighton Council?
Are you in favour of reducing the mandatory minimum of 4.0% of AAV to determine rates?
Would you consider a rating system based on UCV?
Are you in favour of ALL properties in the municipality being equipped with water meters?
Are you in favour of adopting a differential rates system whereby rural properties pay a lesser rate than urban properties because of the lower level of services available?
Are you in favour of Launceston promoting the municipality itself as a place to live, work, invest, be educated etc.?
Are you in favour of maintaining an ‘artist-in-residence’ program?
Are you in favour of continuing or extending educational bursaries?
Are you in favour of proceeding with the proposed tennis facility?
Are you in favour of elector polls on important issues?
What action would you propose if public usage of the Regional Aquatic Centre falls below the projected levels?
We will circulate the answers to these questions once they have been received.

So, BE THERE!

Get involved!

Take an interest!

After all, you only get the Council you deserve…and you deserve better, MUCH, MUCH BETTER!
