Alderman Briscoe believes Pulp Mill Poll More important now. Lennon should resign if poll goes against him

Yesterday the electoral office announced ( display ad in The Mercury) the local council elections were to go ahead in October. An elector poll on the pulp mill will form part of the election for residents of Hobart but may have significance for the whole state. The poll was instigated by Alderman Briscoe. The pulp mill needs federal government approval which has been delayed by Minister Turnbull thus the importance of the public’s view.

“The pulp mill issue is becoming of national importance and continues to get national media exposure” said Alderman Jeff Briscoe today. “Front page stories in the Saturday’s Australian and extensive investigative articles indicates the importance this issue has nationally”

“This poll will be the first time, that every resident can have an opportunity to express their view about the pulp mill and the process that lead to the fast tracking of the state government assessment”

“We need to send a message to Australia from ordinary Tasmanians how this pulp mill is being played out down here”

“I encourage every resident to make their view known through this poll – as the results may have national significance”

“If the poll results overwhelming rejects the proposed site, type and the fast track approval process for the Pulp Mill, then I believe the Premier should resign”

“Already the Brand Tasmania has been affected by the fast tracking but also from the display of third world type politics that is being displayed national and internationally”
