LABOR backbencher Lisa Singh is preparing to cross the floor of Parliament and vote against the contentious Gunns pulp mill unless allowed a “free” vote unconstrained by party policy. Such a move could see Ms Singh forced from the Labor Party over the divisive issue in a re-run of the eviction of rebel ex-Labor MLC Terry Martin in March. Labor insiders have been predicting internal divides over the pulp mill would soon erupt, since Ms Singh conspicuously failed to attend a Lennon Government “love-in” at the Launceston Country Club last week attended by all other Labor MPs. Ms Singh, 35, yesterday wrote to all other 17 members of the Labor Party in the Tasmanian Parliament, appealing for their support for a “conscience” vote.
