What is at stake and the the real story behind this survey is the mismanagement of Tasmania’s future sustainability. The Hewitt Survey that benchmarks DPIW against other large employee organisations and corporate businesses reflects the corrosive malaise in this Department and, in my view, stems from a highly politicised ‘kiss up-kick down’ approach embedded within its leadership & management culture. It is now quite chronic and is symptomatic of a ‘command & control’ ethos. Management acts generally like punative overseers to a frightened, insecure and compliant employee base. In such an atmosphere of fear, is it any wonder the consequences are self-censorship and mediocrity?
