An Easter message from forestry Tasmania

And it was Easter. And the sun did turn blood red and the ash did fall from the sky and the people did quake with fear and frustration, for the symbol of the end-times did slap them in the face. And the people did ring their local representatives and public land managers, and it was to no avail. And the people did write letters and sign petitions and it was to no avail. And the people did cower in their houses and shut their windows, and it was to no avail.
The great smoke did enter and penetrate every nook and cranny. And then a Big Red voice did spake unto them: “shut up, be silent, stop complaining, move on, there’s nothing to see here, get used to
it.”

And the asthmatics did find another place to live. And the smokers did light up in pubs and clubs because the example had been set.

And the climate did change and the sea-levels did rise and a great flood engulfed the land. And the people did await a new prophet.

Pic2 Here’s another telling photograph, taken at about 5pm on Monday 26th March 2007 along the Murchison Highway (not far from a place called Hampshire …). Viewers should note that it was a perfectly clear day with absolutely no clouds and only a very light breeze to speak of. However, we drove through sections of the highway where the sun and sky were completely blocked from view by the smoke from these deliberate fires. Yet another smoking Gunn … Gregor Macfarlane
