A rumour for the cauldron of The Hag………………Gunns, CEO Mr John Gay sensationally declared he has had enough of the indecision and interference and has decided to pull the pin on the Tamar Pulp Mill in a federal election year throwing Tasmania into a volatile frenzy of anger and celebration.

This creates a mega-fire of sensation, speculation, reaction from the Greens, anger from the TCCI and the State Government and Commonwealth, scapegoating of the anti-pulp mill community, conservationists, anti-development and obviously the Greens!

Gay says he will shelve the Pulp Mill development until after the result of the federal election….hoping for a more sympathetic government and a supportive electorate 9 now soften up by the threat to go offshore).

As an election preliminary, this matter creates the polarisation that it was certain to do….uncertainty and anger, bullying suppresses the protests and marginalising the vocal anti-mill groups.

Both political parties commit to protecting jobs in this sector in Tasmania including support for a pulp mill.

After the election, whatever party wins….recommits to a speeded up assessment process under commonwealth supervision on Environmental Standards. The state has a get out by merely being a ‘seamless’ facilitator under their state RMPAT laws and with bilateral agreements with the Commonwealth.

Gay get his way; Lennon has the monkey , Howard has the incendiary incident [like Tampa & Children Overboard] to create tension in Bass and Braddon to his advantage; it forces Rudd to cave in to Gay and play with Gunns and MOST IMPORTANTLY it paints the Greens as the obvious scapegoats and the baddies!

Machiavelli agrees!
