My good friend Bacchus No-Smoke was enjoying a pale ale at the Republic Hotel in North Hobart last night and found the local Poetry Mafia celebrating their long-held stranglehold on Australia Council grants.
And no wonder they were celebrating! Literature Board grants to Tasmanian writers for 2007 went only to poets.

Bacchus tells me that Anthony Lawrence got $30,000, Adrienne Eberhard got $25,000, Karen Witek got $25,000 and Ivy Alvarez got $15,000.
