GUNNS Ltd’s pulp-mill proposal is significantly flawed, says Australia’s leading science research organisation. The CSIRO says the Tamar pulp mill proposal fails to address major air pollution concerns. The CSIRO highlights the fact that the proposed mill exceeds nitrogen oxides emission limits set by the Resource Planning and Development Commission. The CSIRO Marine and Atmospheric Research report is highly critical of the Gunns integrated impact assessment statement, saying it: Fails to include background sulfide levels; Fails to consider fugitive sulfide emissions; Lacks sufficient information to determine whether the RPDC’s in-stack concentration criteria are met; Includes a chimney far shorter than sound engineering practices and government guidelines require; Includes major discrepancies between computer models used by different Gunns consultants to simulate air pollution impacts.
