I’m confused and look forward to comment from readers who know more about these things.
Hydro Tasmania recently spent a considerable amount ($80m?) upgrading the Bell Bay power station with new gas turbine generators and I understand that these have hardly been used.

Now we have Alinta proposing to build a $230m gas power station that will supply Aurora and feed into the grid.

If there is such a demand for gas generated electricity and Alinta reckon they can generate it economically why are “our” turbines sitting idle?

Are the Hydro turbines inefficient?

Is Hydro innefficient?

Do they pay too much for the gas?
