Jeff Briscoe Press Release

Moves to create Battery Point walkway welcomed
HCC Alderman Jeff Briscoe said the outcomes of the public rally today (Saturday) called by residents of the Battery Point Community would be welcomed by all residents of Hobart.

“The call for a public scramble path and the removal of barriers to access around the foreshore of Battery Point were moves in the right direction” Alderman Briscoe said.

“Whilst it isn’t the low impact walkway of my vision, it certainly is a step in the right direction.”

“I believe every person, whether old or young should be able to access the foreshore and a scramble track may not provide that”

“In our national parks, including at Cradle Mt, walkways have been created that are environmentally friendly but provide access for all”

“However any path that gives full access is a step in the right direction”

Alderman Briscoe also praised the rally for acting to legitimize the Battery Point Community association. “It is vital for good governance of our city that the community associations are properly formed so we can be confident that we are dealing with a legal entity”.
