This is madness

Dear Tasmanians,
I visited your beautiful Isle eight years ago and was gob-smacked by your amazing wilderness.

I promised myself I’d return.

Today I saw a film about logging in Tasmania.

I can’t believe old growth forests are exported as woodchips; this is madness!

Native forests are your most precious resource.

Plantations can feed sustainable industry.

What about tourism?

If you know anything about climate change you’ll know that it is going to get a whole lot hotter in 50 years and water will become scarce.

Mature forests are essential for retaining water and maintaining a healthy climate, as well as absorbing atmospheric carbon.

In a dry & hot world native forest will be all the more valuable.

Do not let them be squandered by ecological illiterates.

Gunns must be reigned in; oppose the new pulp mill.

Write to your representatives; demand state protection of all remaining old growth; take to the streets; take to the forests!
