THE Australian Medical Association opposes the pulp mill proposed by woodchip giant Gunns Ltd. An AMA pulp mill committee of five experts, including lung physician James Markos, has found Gunns had not addressed the five health issues the AMA raised in February. Launceston already had the worst air in Australia, and the mill would be in the worst possible site, said Professor Haydn Walters. Prof. Walters said the report was totally inadequate and did not even consider the small particles known to cause sickness and death.
