The Proponent IIS does not include the 158% increase in the wanton destruction by burning of timber caused by clear felling practices, and the 150% increase in log truck movements which is part of the announced increase in wood chipping volumes to 7,000,000 tonnes per year. All of which will increase air pollution.

Air Quality.

It’s great to see improving air quality standards in Launceston. However if the Proposed Pulp Mill at Longreach goes ahead this will totally negate all the expenditure, all the effort and all of the improvements made in the last four years.

I cannot understand the duplicity of Local, State and Federal governments as well as a number of other organizations on this and many other matters.

Their support for the Pulp Mill, which by the Proponents own ILS will discharge 300kgs of PM 10 particulate a day, 27/7-365 days per year for each of the next 30 years. This will totally over ride the improvements gained to date.

The discharges will occur not only in winter of course, but during all seasons, all weather conditions. It’s hard to understand how increased adverse health effects will not increase, and increase during months when this pollution is not currently not a problem.
