She found that when the tiger was being hunted by Tasmanian snarers and persecuted by farmers in the late 1800s and early 1900s, the common images of the thylacine featured an exotic predator with wolf or hyena-like menace. Some images are rat-like, evoking images of vermin, disease and disgust.
