A fine mate
Tasmania’s Gaming Commission has fined Federal Hotels $100,000 for installing dozens of unapproved poker machines. The company was given approval to roll out up to 10 new blue-chip model machines but within six months, had put 99 in pubs and clubs around the state. The commission issued a ‘please explain’ to the company, but it continued rolling out the pokies. Gaming Commission chairman Clyde Eastaugh says it was a serious breach but the fine was only a tenth of the maximum penalty allowed under the Gaming Control Act.
