How will you do it?

So it is all very well to say that you are going to provide an additional 946 skilled professionals into the Tasmanian workforce to provide for our community, but HOW are you going to do it?

WHILE I commend the State Government on their budget initiatives to the Tasmanian community through their investment in the health and education sectors, and in particular through the provision of professionals to provide these much needed services, I wonder how they are going to deliver.

How will they identify, attract and retain an additional 450 staff for the Royal Hobart Hospital, 43 clinical nurse educators, an additional 60 teachers for years 2 to 6 and an additional 29 teachers for year 7, 340 more apprentices, 7 new dentists, an additional 12 police officers and 5 psychologists?

Just the week after the State Budget was announced the Government also released the REDI report which identified the availability of skilled labour, labour costs and the availability of labour generally as constraints across the whole state which are currently preventing businesses from expanding and investing into the future.

So it is all very well to say that you are going to provide an additional 946 skilled professionals into the Tasmanian workforce to provide for our community, but HOW are you going to do it?

I would like to see the Government and Industry working together to attract skilled labour to the State, by raising the profile of Tasmanian to live and work and providing assistance for the relocation of these skills to the State and their families to ensure their skills are retained here.
