Pulp mill festival …

Posted on

An all-ages music festival will showcase local and interstate bands at Marion’s Vineyard, Deviot, this coming Saturday night. The event combines culture with campaigning, as an awareness-raiser of the risks associated with Gunns’ proposed Tamar Valley pulp mill. It has been organised by The Wilderness Society and the Tamar Residents Action Committee (TRAC).

Musicians and DJs featured include Modus, Billy Goats Gruff, Hammerclit, Anna Bickel, Carl Fidler, Pharma psy, Matt C, J and others from Tasmania and interstate. South Australian hip hop band MKB will perform and show national support for the community campaign to stop this particular pulp mill.

“Youth engagement in the pulp mill debate is critical,” said The Wilderness Society Community Campaigner Gemma Tillack. “The problems, including long term access to native forests and environmental pollution, means tomorrows leaders will inherit some unwelcome baggage from poor decisions made today.”

“Marion’s Vineyard, overlooking the Tamar River, provides a perfect location for an event of this nature”, said Ms Tillack. “It is a business that typifies Tasmania’s clean green future, it is in a spectacular location and virtually overlooks the proposed pulp mill site on the Tamar River. This event will see the local community come together to help protect that clean, green future.”

The night is a fundraiser for the pulp mill campaigns of The Wilderness Society and Tamar Residents Action Committee. Tickets are available at the door or people can contact The Wilderness Society on 03 6331 7488 for more information.
