The Tasmanian Community Survey: Employment was released by Anglicare Tasmania on Monday. The report draws on data collected from 2106 Tasmanian adults in Autumn 2005.
Some of the key findings from the research are:
Casual workers:
• 42% of casual employees would prefer to have permanent employment;
• 31% of casual employees were on incomes low enough that they qualified for Commonwealth Concession cards;
• 27% of casual employees reported that they at least occasionally worried if the food they could afford would be enough for their household; and
• 27% of casual employees were aged between 40 and 49 years with a further 20% of casuals aged between 50 and 59 years.
Workers without superannuation:
• 9% of casual employees reported that they had no superannuation at all;
• 40% of unemployed Tasmanians reported that they had no superannuation at all; and
• 57% of people who were not in the labour force (and aged under 60 years) reported that they did not have any superannuation at all.
