On: pulp mill rally

A lunchtime public meeting to be held at the Hobart Town Hall Wednesday (March 1st) will bring to public attention the risks of the proposed pulp mill in the Tamar Valley.

Dr Mariann Lloyd-Smith, a senior advisor to the National Toxics Network Inc in Canberra, will speak at this meeting. She will identify incorrect and misleading information used in pro-mill promotions of the pulp mill.

Other speakers will include TRAC coordinator and independent candidate for Bass, Les Rochester, Tasmanian Greens leader Peg Putt, University of Tasmania lecturer Dr Peter Hay and Gunns writ defendant Lou Geraghty.

This lunchtime meeting will highlight the statewide implications of this mill being built.

This proposed pulp mill is inherently risky, as it involves considerable environmental damage, economic risk and threatens community values and social harmony.

People opposed to this pulp mill know that it will drive ongoing forest destruction and pollute our air and our marine environment. Tasmania’s clean green future is too precious to pulp.
