THE first edition of the tell-all political autobiography, Cheeky: Confessions of a Ferret Salesman, has sold out.

Author and publisher Bob Cheek said huge demand from both Tasmania and interstate meant the initial printing of 1000 was a virtual sell-out two weeks after publication and now most book stores were completely out of stock.

However, a second print run of 1000 is now in progress and most retailers will be restocked by early next week, meaning people can still buy a copy for Christmas.

“This is my first attempt at publishing and I was unprepared for the huge success of the book. I apologise to people who have been unable to obtain a copy,” Mr Cheek said.

The book, distributed by Pipeclay Publishing Co which is owned by Mr Cheek, was number one on the Tasmanian best seller list for two successive weeks before supplies ran out.

“Already I have requests for nearly 500 books just to satisfy existing demand and orders are continuing to flow in,” Mr Cheek said.

A planned northern book launch in Launceston this week had to be postponed because there was little if any stock available.

“The pre-publication threats from Liberal Leader Rene Hidding have greatly assisted sales,” Mr Cheek said.

“And I’m pleased that the dire predictions from former premier Tony Rundle that I wouldn’t sell 200 copies have been left far behind.”
