As a lonely 21 year old in the first few months of a stint of ‘capital punishment’ in Canberra, I bought my first television set (an 11-inch black & white) so I could watch Tasmania’s cricket team, led by Jack Simmons, score its first victory in a national competition.
And last Sunday, for the first time in what would have to be donkey’s years, I watched most of a one-day game to see if Tasmania could pull it off again. And I was as pleased as any current resident of Tasmania could have been with the result.
