Unfortunately, credit markets iced over last year and pulp mill politics deteriorated. Questions arose over financing (ANZ was pressured by Get-Up) and corporate governance (particularly Gay’s close relationship with the Premier of Tasmania, Paul Lennon). Nor did the change of federal government smooth the way. On top of all this, Leighton’s Wal King was not shy in depicting the mill as an imaginary girlfriend.
