GUNNS Ltd is to axe 129 jobs next week when it closes the former Auspine sawmill at Tonganah, near Scottsdale, and consolidates its business on the former Frenchpine site at Ling Siding. Unions have reacted angrily to the way the news was delivered to a loyal workforce which had been to “hell and back” over the past two years. CFMEU secretary Scott McLean said workers had heard the news in the media. “It is an appalling way to treat people, some of whom left school to start work at Auspine and have been there up to 33 years,” he said. “I couldn’t believe the company would drop it out like that.” Read more here
