Unsettled weather as a low and cold front approach TAS Observations to 9am: • The warm weather yesterday saw most locations in Tasmania record up to six degrees above the October average. • Hobart’s maximum temperature was 25 degrees, Launceston 24 degrees and Strahan 27 degrees. • The last time Hobart reached 25 degrees was in March 2018. Today: • Showers will reach the north and west of Tasmania as a cloud band extends across the state due to a slow moving low currently situated off the western Victorian coast. • Rainfall totals of 5-15 mm across the north west with 20 mm possible over elevated areas in the west, 2-5 mm over the central north and west, and less than 2 mm elsewhere. • Chance of thunderstorms this afternoon over inland areas. • East to northeasterly winds, strong about the north east maritime and fresh about the east coast. • Maximum temperatures around the state will sit in the low-to-mid 20s. Wednesday: • Unsettled conditions as a cold front crosses Tasmania, weakening during the day ahead of a low that will develop off the west coast of the state by late evening. • Statewide showers during the day and possible thunderstorms. Heavy falls may occur with the thunderstorms. • Rainfall totals of 10-20mm across the state, 30-40 mm over the eastern half of the state with up to 50 mm possible over elevated areas in the east, and 5-10 mm over the east and southeast coast. • East to northeasterly winds will be strong about the far northeast maritime. • Cooler temperatures expected across the state with maximums around 18-22 degrees. Thursday: • The low off the southwest coast moves southeast during the day. • Showers statewide with 10-20 mm over the north, west and far south, possibly up to 30 mm over elevated areas in the north and far south, 5-10 mm elsewhere and less than 2 mm over the east coast. • Chance of thunderstorms during the afternoon with possible heavy falls. • Light winds, strengthening and becoming northwesterly by the afternoon.
