The Tasmanian Greens are pleased to announce Indigenous ranger Jarrod Edwards will contest the seat of Braddon at the upcoming byelection.
Mr Edwards, is an experienced land manager who is responsible for the Preminghana Indigenous Protected Area. He was named Tasmania’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year in 2016.
“I am passionate about protecting cultural heritage, defending the environment and standing up for social justice in my community,” Mr Edwards said.
“The Greens are committed to protecting country, and I’m proud to stand with them.”
“The people of North West Tasmania deserve representatives who prioritise the essential needs of all of us, and look after the place for our children and grandchildren.”
“Everyone should have the right to a well-paid and secure job, a comfortable and affordable home, an education, universal healthcare and income support when times are tough.”
Tasmanian Greens convenor Rosalie Gorton-Lee said Mr Edwards would be a strong representative for the people of Braddon.
“Jarrod has a fantastic record of protecting cultural values and the environment of North West Tasmania,” she said.
“He will be a strong voice for social justice and the environment in Braddon.”
