• Report released after staff, students kept in dark for a year
• Rockliff must be open and accountable about implementation of report
• Tabling designed to take pressure off embattled Jaensch
The true extent of the cultural problems at TasTAFE have been finally laid bare, with the release of the Wise Lord and Ferguson audit.
Shadow Minister for Employment, Training and Skills Development Anita Dow said Jeremy Rockliff was clearly desperate to keep the full extent of TasTAFE dysfunction hidden until after the election.
“These issues happened under the Minister’s watch and he must take full responsibility,” Ms Dow said.
“Mr Rockliff needs to change his hands-off approach to truly fix the problems at TasTAFE.
“It has been 12 months since the Integrity Commission revealed a host of issues and this comprehensive audit confirms those findings.
“The tabling of the report today was clearly to take the focus away from the embattled Housing and Human Services Minister.
“Mr Rockliff kept staff, students and everyone in the TasTAFE community in the dark after he broke his promise to release the quarterly audit reports.
“Staff wanted to be informed so they could help implement changes but instead 12 months have been wasted.
“Now that he has finally released the report, Mr Rockliff needs to be open and transparent with the TasTAFE community about how the recommendations will be acted upon.
“The issues reported are serious. There needs to be some accountability to report progress on the recommendations to the Parliament and the Tasmanian community.
“It is important that staff and students are well supported through this next phase with adequate resources.
“It’s time now to repair the reputation of TasTAFE.”
