The Devonport Regional Gallery is now calling for entries to the Tidal: City of Devonport National Art Award 2018.
This $15,000 major acquisitive award is open to artists, who reside in Australia. The award is sponsored by the Devonport City Council and the Devonport Regional Gallery Friends Committee.
This prestigious award was first launched in 2004 and has since 2010 been an acquisitive award, with winning works becoming a part of the Devonport City Council’s Permanent Collection.
“The inspiration for the award is of course derived from Devonport being a coastal city, but the aim of tidal is to encourage contemporary practice with strength of concept, innovation and execution of two-dimensional artwork. The theme is open to a range of interpretation be it personal, environmental, political or of cultural nature.” Said Geoff Dobson, Art Centre Director.
The Tidal: City of Devonport National Art Award 2018 Finalists exhibition will open at the Devonport Regional Gallery at the paranaple arts centre on Friday the 2nd of November and continues until Sunday the 27th of January 2019.
Visitors can vote for their favourite work in the Peoples’ Choice Award. The winning artist will be announced at the close of the exhibition and the artist will receive $1,000, courtesy of Collins Real Estate.
“tidal in its own right is both exciting and significant, but this year we have the added thrill of this exhibition being gallery’s inaugural event at the paranaple arts centre.”
The selection and judging for tidal.18 will be done by Adam Harding, Director, Horsham Regional Art Gallery, Ashleigh Whatling, Curator Visual Art and Design, Queen Victoria Museum & Art Gallery and
Dr Jan Hogan, Coordinator of Printmaking and Drawing Studios, School of Creative Arts, Hobart, UTAS.
