“This isn’t radical. It’s basic decency, and it’s common sense.” That’s what Nobel Prize winner Joseph Stiglitz had to say about our people powered vision – Future to Fight For.
After the Turnbull Government disappointed the country with another trickle-down budget, we’ve decided to kick things up a notch. Hot on the heels of the release of Future to Fight For, we’re launching GetUp’s first ever podcast.
For our very first episode we’re joined by Nobel Prize winner and former chief economist of the World Bank, Professor Joseph Stiglitz. In this exclusive interview, Stiglitz discusses corporate power, the resulting reduction of people-power, and the economic myths that have for too long been used by our leaders to limit what’s politically possible.
Listen to the exclusive interview with former chief economist and best-selling author Joseph Stiglitz now.
Over the last two years in global politics, two things have become clear. First, the boundaries of the politically possible are far wider than we imagined. Second if we wait for this government to present a vision of a better world, we’ll be waiting a while.
According to Scott Morrison a $10 tax cut is a staggering feat, and an $80 billion corporate handout counts as ‘vision’. Which is why it’s time to shake things up.
We already have a vision for the direction we want to move in – thanks to the 17,000 GetUp members who shared their vision for a fair, flourishing and just future. But now we need to broaden the tent, and connect with a wider audience to build a fresh consensus on the failures of narrow, neoliberal thinking.
Listen to Nobel Prize winner Joseph Stiglitz explain why a new approach is necessary for inequality, tax reform and trade.
GetUp members are united by our shared goal – a world where the economy serves the people, rather than people serving the economy. Now it’s time to help others imagine as we do.
We already know these ideas are possible – and we aren’t the only ones. It’s time to spread our vision, and push the national debate to where it needs to be. Listen to the podcast, and please rate it, subscribe and share it with your friends so that together, we can build the biggest possible audience for the real vision we desperately need.
In determination,
