The man who killed 14-year-old Elijah Doughty has been released on parole after 19 months in jail, sparking anger among Indigenous residents of Kalgoorlie.
The 56-year-old man, whose identity has been suppressed, was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment on one count of dangerous driving causing death in 2016 after running over the boy in a four-wheel-drive. In a statement, Western Australia’s Prisoners Review Board said the offender’s “salutary impact” of his prison term, his “low risk of re-offending” and his lack of criminal history qualified him for parole, although he has been ordered “to have no direct or indirect contact with the deceased victim’s family and not to enter the Kalgoorlie area, including Boulder” …
